New York, a venture - The 42nd st trailer
New York, a venture - The 42nd st. trailer
Directed, edited and produced by Alessandro Fantini
The 42nd street is probably the most iconic and cinematic crosstown street of Manhattan. The path traveled by foot by Adam Clairfield (a.k.a. Craig Williams) from the Port Authority Bus Terminal to Bryant Park is both a drift of senses and a spiritual trip across the layered dimensions of the city, where the shimmering fanciness of theatres and shops merged with the swarming medley of tourists and newyorkers following the dreamy or nightmarish intersections of their urban lives.

Soundtrack released
The "New York, a venture" official soundtrack is now available on Bandcamp.
"At the beginning of every project there's always a vision, a sound or a vibe. Sometimes they come up simultaneously. Sometimes they're the extension of each other. Sometimes the vibe can generate a vision developing itself in sonic movements. In the latter case I got the confirmation that's the starting point of a new movie. While I was composing this soundtrack three months before beginning the principal photography in New York City, I was actually figuring out the emotional tones and visual pace of the scenes rendered in the script and in the storyboard according to that inner symphony. Some of the tracks were already well defined before the editing, such as the main theme and the intro conceived to support the slow, ceremonial passage between New Jersey and New York through the Lincoln Tunnel. Only the music used to punctuate the emotive flow of the main dialogue near the Conservatory Lake in Central park has been composed in post-production. The recurrent use of sounds of bells, cymbals, xylophones and metallic percussions derived by the preminent narrative and spiritual roles played by the Delacorte Musical Clock and the Saint John Cathedral, sort of techno-gothic heralds of that New York memory breathing into the steampunk-like coalescence of new and ancient architectures. A mnemonic puzzle that's the ground and the catalyst where the lost memories of the protagonists will merge like colors and instruments of a wider musical canvas."

Amnesiac gap
Coming back to the metropolis enshrining one's own childhood
memories, especially after a long amnesiac gap, can be a traumatic
experience itself: Adam Clairfield facing the mutated urbanscape of his
forgotten past. Still from Alessandro Fantini's "New York, a venture"
(2014).

The Main theme
The first excerpt from the soundtrack is the "Main theme", a track composed in a few hours in March, 3 months before the principal photography in New York.
"New York, a venture" - the first official trailer
After 7 months since I completed the script and 1 month since I finished shooting, now I can say that what looked like an overambitious and almost utopic project firstly summarized by a bunch of papers and a pre-production teaser, is finally taking shape between my hands while I'm assembling the last frames, sounds and effects into a living mosaic of real and imaginary lives.
My deepest gratitude to the cast and all the people who joined this "extrasensory" enterprise throughout the sensory overload of Manhattan:
Craig Williams aka Adam Clairfield,
Kyrie Vickers aka Amy Bolnes,
Henrik Kim Rehr aka the Lunatic of Central Park,
Karen Goldfarb aka the Lady of Central Park,
Lincoln Athas as camera assistant,
Vincenzo Fantasia and Said Raissi aka the Runners.
More news and content to come in the next days.

Existential meeting in New York
While scouting new locations for my movie in
Manhattan, during a warm urban afternoon, Willem Dafoe crossed my path
and he seemed quite enthusiastic to discover that I was an Italian
artist from the same region of her wife. "Sono Italiano anch'io"
- I'm Italian too!" he proudly declared in a perfect Italian accent
with a large, generous smile. During that "existential meeting", having
studied Pasolini's opus and life for many years, I realized he was the
perfect choice, physical wise and spiritual wise, for playing the
Casarsa poet in the new Abel Ferrara's movie that has been screened at Venice Film festival. Many wishes Willem, and thanks
again for your large-hearted words. It has been like meeting Pier Paolo
himself in a twilight zone between New York and Rome.

Post production
New York, a venture (2014)
In 2014, 3 billion people will be using the Internet and the mobile-cellular market. Since last decade computers and mobiles are relentlessly altering and crumbling our perception of social reality and present time.
Nevertheless it’s the unexpected email Adam gets from his cousin Kevin inviting him to join his secret venture in New York City, to trigger the chain of events that will lead him to restore his own lost reality.
A random incident in Central Park that makes him lose every natural and artificial connections to the surrounding world, will be nothing but the first stage of a self-discovery through the darkness of memory. Yet, only the verses of Amy, the enigmatic poetess of Central Park, will eventually enlighten the path of his quest with the colored Flames of a Vision that once split two lives, and now is about to reunite them in the cleansing whiteness of a stocking cup.

Presque-vu - Atlas of Untold (2014 paperback edition)
AFAN Alessando Fantini
Presque vu - Atlas of Untold (2014 paperback edition)
The revised 2014 paperback edition of the art book "Presque vu - Atlas of Untold" will be soon available for sale on Amazon, but in the meanwhile you can buy it on the author's Blurb bookstore:
http://www.blurb.com/b/5340117-presque-vu-2014-paperback-edition
This second edition offers the same visual content updated with the latest artworks created between 2011 and 2014 in a more affordable and easy consulting format.
"I consider painting my most intimate dominion where pursuing the evocation of what I like to define “mysterium interruptum”, “a suspended mystery”, that is something very similar to the experience of the “presque vu”, “almost seen”, when we feel that we’re about to recall a name or a word without being able to tell it. In fact like the more sensual “coitus interruptus”, the pleasure of this impression relies on the anguished awareness of the unspeakable that only the crystallization of momentum rendered by a painting can deliver to the watcher".

Donna Tartt, the glowing feather
Donna Tartt (2014)
Oil on canvas, 30x40 cm.
My personal tribute to the author of "The Secret History", "The Little Friend" and "The Goldfinch", whose universe of narrative details describes the inner lives of every reader, like a glowing feather enlightening the windows of countless apartments in the nocturnal palace of existence.
